Kuvaus

The Stickelsberg nature reserve is made up of a mosaic of exposed bedrock, spruce forests and wetlands. This large reserve is rich in unusual and endangered plants, fungi and animals. Birds such as osprey, common buzzard, black grouse, owls and woodpeckers also live here.

The Värmdöleden trail runs through the reserve and connects to the reserve parking lot. At the Värmdöleden trail picnic area at Stickelsberg, there is an old execution site which was in use for 170 years. At the time, it was located at the outermost edge of civilization in order to avoid ghosts of the executed haunting the nearby villages. The last execution took place on April 8, 1820.

Stickelsberg nature reserve was formerly known as Saltarö-Skärmarö nature reserve.
