Gålö: Stegsholm

Stegsholm, one of Haninge's Natura 2000 areas, is located on northern Gålö. Stegsholm is also part of the Gålö Nature Reserve, which is managed by the Archipelago Foundation. With its secluded bays, grazed meadows and beautiful oak landscape, it is one of the municipality's most scenic areas. In April and May, carpets of white anemones glow in the groves and the smell of convalescence is intoxicating. Perhaps nowhere else in the municipality do so many Adam and Eve and cowslips grow as at Stegsholm. May lilies, marsh gentian and the orchid meadowsweet sprout in the meadows. The varied cultural landscape is also extremely rich in game and birds. Nightingale, rosefinch and stonechat are some of the bird species that thrive in the bushy landscape. The unique oak landscape is also a habitat for many endangered insects, fungi and lichens.
