Restoration work is underway to recreate old meadows and pastureland in Ängsö National Park. The restorations will take place during several years and some areas of the island may look messy. However, with time, the restored areas will become rich habitats for many species of flora and fauna, and flowering meadows will meet visitors.
The restorations are part of the EU funded project LIFE RestoRED.
Kuvaus
Ängsö National Park, located in the heart of Roslagen, was one of the first national parks in Europe. The park's renowned biodiversity and floral splendour are a result of an interplay between man and nature through the ages. The landscape is kept open through the traditional practices of haymaking and grazing livestock, which also promote a rich wildflower diversity, including several orchid species. Many species of bird live in the groves and can be seen on the surrounding waters. On the island, you can learn more about the historical challenges of a life lived on the archipelago.
