Sävö nature reserve is located close to the mainland and has the character of an inner archipelago. The island is characterized by agriculture and grazing.
There are plenty of remnants of the old agricultural landscape: fields, cairns and hand-dug ditches. There are also around 100 pollarded trees of lime, ash and oak on the island.Sävö is moderately hilly and reaches a maximum of 18 meters above sea level. Rocky outcrops, steep mountains, depressions and crevices are found mainly on the western side. The forest consists of spruce and pine with alder swamps in some places.
Some really old oaks - around 300 years old - remain in connection with the old pilot site. Most of the oaks were probably planted when Sävö was a tenant farm under the Tureholm manor, during the era when the oak was considered to symbolize prosperity and success. The island's vegetation is characterized by grazing and includes Adam and Eve, maidenhair fern, wild linden and sedge.
Sävö is a popular island for hiking, swimming and fishing. Information about, for example, accommodation, opening hours for Sävö farm café, boat transport to Sävö, activities, agriculture, nature and history:
