Kuvaus

Close to Lund, between Värpinge and St Lars, Höjeådalen offers the opportunity to experience nature and respite. Winding paths, rolling pastures and bird-rich ponds as well as the new play area - Klimatleken. Höjeådalen Nature Reserve is 68 hectares in size and runs between the village of Värpinge and Höjebromölla by the E22 motorway.

Between Värpinge and St Lars, on the southern outskirts of Lund, lies Höjeådalen. The area provides the residents of Lund, with the chance to get close to nature. Sea trout migrate up the river to spawn and the treatment ponds, like the river, contribute to a rich bird life.

The area has several walking trails, a bird tower, picnic areas and several barbecue sites.

Faktat

The stretch of the River Höje Å between St Hans and Värpinge is valuable not only for recreation for the residents of Lund, but also for many bird species, all year round. This has made the area popular with bird watchers. Here you are quite likely to see species including grey wagtail, red-necked grebe and several species of duck. The River Höje Å is also important for sea trout which migrates up the river to spawn. The river and ponds also provide habitat for several species of frog, dragonflies, and fish.

From the bird tower, you can get a good view of the ponds. Below the tower, there are also picnic areas with benches and tables. There are also several barbeque places in the site – see the map for more information.

Höjeådalen is easily reached by bike if you start from Lund. If you want to take the bus, you can go to either Värpinge or St Lars and if you want to walk along the river, you can easily get there and back from various stops.

Within the area, special rules and restrictions apply to the right of public access.

For example, it is forbidden to

  • have a dog unleashed
  • camping
  • make a fire/barbecue
  • cycling or riding outside the designated path.

It is important to note that this is only a selection of the rules.

**In addition to regulations and prohibitions in other laws and regulations, it is forbidden to

  1. intentionally disturb wildlife or grazing animals
  2. damage living or dead trees and shrubs or vegetation in general, and remove or carry away dead wood from the area
  3. dig, hack, drill, paint, dam, pump or otherwise damage fixed natural objects, land surfaces or aquatic environments.
  4. have an unleashed dog or other loose pet except in a specially designated place. It is also not allowed to not pick up after your dog.
  5. camping or setting up equipment for overnight stays
  6. set up a caravan, motorhome or similar.
  7. make fires, use disposable grills, alcohol or gas stoves or similar equipment, outside the designated area.
  8. organize storage, dump garden waste or rubbish.
  9. drive a motorized vehicle off the designated road.
  10. ride a bicycle or horse except on a designated road, path or place.
  11. take off or land with an aircraft or other remotely operated unmanned aircraft within the reserve.
  12. capture insects, spiders, snails or other invertebrates by any means other than by scooping, hand picking or other selective method that does not destroy the animal's habitat, with subsequent release within the nature reserve. The requirement for re-release does not apply to single specimens of difficult-to-determine species of each species, provided that the findings are registered in the Species Portal, or equivalent database for threatened species, and that the collection does not violate the conservation regulations.
  13. collect mosses, lichens or woody fungi, with the exception of single specimens, provided that the collection does not violate the conservation rules
  14. put up a board, poster, sign, poster, inscription or similar in places other than those specifically designated
  15. organize competitions or events that may damage or disturb the natural environment.
  16. use sound systems, musical instruments or similar in a disruptive or noisy manner
  17. erect any kind of facility or set up objects that are alien to the reserve.
  18. put out beehives.
