Rastplatsen på Sågholmen

Sågholmen is the name of the island in the middle of Stångån, between Tannefors locks and Snugganparken. The island is an oasis in the city and a great place for a picnic. At the far end of the island's eastern tip, there is a cozy picnic area with several picnic tables and a barbecue where you can make a fire and cook your food.

The area around Tannefors' magnificent lock staircase offers beautiful park environments with a café, piers and a gazebo located at the end of the pier in the canal channel. In the mill village of Tannefors, there have been mills that utilized the power of the waterfall since the Middle Ages. When the Kinda Canal opened in 1871, there were seven flour mills, two sawmills, a knitwear factory, a wadding factory, a snuff mill and a bone crusher for crushing animal bones into fertilizer. Tekniska verken continues to use most of the flowing water for electricity production.

On the other side of Sågholmen is Snugganparken, named after the mill owner's house Snuggan, which is located in the southern part of the park. The Snuggan mill that belonged to the house was closed down in 1920 and demolished when the promenade was built in 1931. Snugganparken has been renovated and developed into an attractive meeting place. An outdoor gym, football pitch, beautiful plantings and seating provide opportunities for both activity and rest.

The area around Sågholmen, Snugganparken and Tannefors locks is one of Stångåstråket's most valuable aquatic environments, with unusual aquatic plants and four of Sweden's eight species of large mussels. Alder trees and willows hanging over the water provide shade, food and good conditions for fish spawning and bird nesting.
