Konstverk Virtuell spiral

The artist Set
Söderholm trained at the Royal Institute of Art and works with sculpture,
installation, painting, light projects and more. In his art, Set Söderholm
seeks to connect to something universal to all times and all cultures.

For his neon artwork,
he was inspired by the façade of the emergency services building following a
light project comprising night photographs of moving light sources. The
photographs were taken with very long exposure times, showing beautiful
colourful swirls of light in the dark landscape.

After the project, he
had the idea to turn one of the images into a permanent sculpture in neon
light.

The name ‘Virtuell
spiral’ (Virtual Spiral) refers to the part of the spiral that extends beyond
the façade. This is suggested by a pause in one of the various switch-on and
switch-off sequences, accounting for the neon tubes that are not present. Purchased
by the Municipality of Värnamo in 1995.
