Konstverk Märket

‘Märket’s’ (The Mark)
geometric shapes are inspired by the maypoles of Apladalen and traditional straw
crowns known as Himmelis. The sources of inspiration are abstract
symbols of important celebrations, which also act as place makers and
signposts.

The title ‘Märket’ is
a clue to the third source of inspiration – sea markers. The marker is visible
from afar and helps visitors to orientate themselves, as well as being a place
to gather.

The artist Katarina
Löfström visited the park several times during her sketching period and decided
that she wanted to create a piece that would serve as a meeting point, enhance
the unique character of the area and link it to its history as a central point
in Värnamo.

‘Märket’ is a 5.5-metre-high
sculptural design made from Norrland pine and painted in the light red Falu colour.
It is located in the apple orchard at the new entrance to Apladalen. Purchased
by the Municipality of Värnamo in 2021.
