Stenbrytning

Quarrying began here in the mid-19th century, employing up to 500 people by the end of the century. Stone products were produced until 1965, and for another 25 years raw material was quarried for beautiful gravestones. The Söndrum stone can be found in several places around the world, such as the Peace Palace in The Hague and the Church of Sweden in Copenhagen and the Church of Sweden in Paris. The stone carving has inspired the artists of the Söndrum colony to create many motifs.
