Snöå bruk området

In Snöån you will find one of our municipality's most beautiful old mill areas. Here is also the beginning of incredibly nice hiking and cycling trails for MTB. Snöå ski stadium has a very popular roller ski track and XCO bike track in summer, and in winter there are very nice cross-country ski trails. The whole family can walk the child-friendly fairytale trail and maybe play mini golf in summer. Food is available in the manor house at Snöå Bruk (pre-booking is required as Snöå Bruk does not have fixed opening hours). Snöå Bruk was founded in 1811 as an ironworks with a forge. The rapids of Snöån were used as a power source for the forge's hammer. The surrounding forests provided coal for the furnaces.

The stone foundations of the forge can still be seen in the rapids. There is also a sawmill and a gristmill in the area from the time of the mill, both of which were powered by the rapids. The main building, the Disponentvillan, also dates from the mill era. The mill was closed down in 1866.
