Beautiful City Park

History

The park was formerly the city's trading venue. It was also the most distinguished residential area in Åmål. In the year of 1777 the whole area burned down. Since then, the area has evaded all fires that erupted in Åmål. The park and the surrounding buildings is today one of the country's best-preserved 1700s environments.

Two statues and a fountain

There are two statues in the park. ”Eva” from 1953 and the fountain sculpture (now a statue) “Vattenlek” that was inaugurated in 1961. In the center of the park is a brand new fountain. It consists of granite from the quarry in Berga north of Åmål. On the polished surface, water flows out over Lake Vänern's outline in the block. A bullet in bronze shows where Åmål is located. The fountain is created by the stone shiver Siv Boström.
