Fästan, Naturreservat

Beskrivelse
The proximity to Maglehem's urban area and Degeberga summer village makes Fästan a fine walking area with several different paths. The area also borders the old embankment between Degeberga and Brösarp, which today is a walking and cycling route. Flowering herbs and shrubs contribute to the area being a hotspot for butterflies.
An important link
In the area around Maglehem there are several other nature reserves (Drakamöllan, Möllegården, Kumlan, Björshus, Lillehem and Friseboda). What they have in common is the sandy, dry pastures with their special plants and animals. Fästan links Friseboda with the other reserves located a short distance from the coast. This facilitates the spread and continued survival of the unique sandy soil species.
Colorful butterflies and flowers
Fästan, together with the other land around Maglehem, is rich in butterflies. The mosaic-like nature with everything from open to shrubby grasslands, different types of forest and variation between wet and dry provides the conditions for this. With a bit of luck, you can see the blue-shimmering and unusual butterfly, the black-spotted blue, which is dependent on the thyme for its survival. As many as 26 of the butterfly species are so rare that they are on the list of Sweden's endangered species, the "red list". Other exclusive species in and around Fästan like sand, such as the sand lizard and the ant lion (caterpillar of the ant lion).
When visiting, it is much easier to find meadow flowers. Perhaps you'll see the white flowers of the bridal flower and the sand lily, the pinkish-purple maidenhair and trift, or the yellow of the cowslip and heath flowers? In the beech forest, you may instead find species such as the wood anemone, the purple orchid St. Peter's keys and wild garlic, which fills the spring air with the scent of onions.
Good frog opportunities
Fästan is not a frog paradise at present, but it could become one. Both leaf frog, beach toad and long-legged frog are nearby. In order for amphibians to thrive in Fästan, some wetlands need to be created in the eastern parts of the reserve.
Outdoor life
The area's proximity to Maglehem's urban area and Degeberga summer village makes it an interesting hiking area. The area also borders the old embankment between Degeberga and Brösarp, which today is a hiking and cycling route. There are several paths through the area. Visitors can most easily reach the area from the eastern part at Degeberga sommarby, but also from the embankment via a well-trodden path through the beech forest that leads down to the open fields. Remember to take your rubbish home.
