Välkommen till Skånes fantastiska natur!
It is as well to tell it like it is. Egeside is inaccessible and wet and lacks facilities for visitors. At least for people. The vast wetlands adjacent to the lower part of Helgeå, however, are a paradise for birds! This rich bird life is best experienced from the bird tower at the Pulken outdoor museum Link to another website...
Until 1775, the Egeside area consisted of a shallow lake, but when the River Helge å broke into the sea, the water level dropped by 60-70 cm. Today, Egeside is instead made up of wetlands, gentle scrublands and swamp forests that attract a variety of mammals and birds.
A small part of the reserve consists of grazed coastal meadows, but most of Egeside consists of marshland, willow scrub and mudflats. Most of Egeside is therefore difficult to access. The parts of the reserve that are inaccessible to humans are home to a range of mammals, including moose, deer and wild boar. Bird life is particularly rich and a large number of species breed in the area, including summer wren, rosefinch, nightingale, lesser spotted woodpecker and brown harrier.
Egeside is difficult to access and wet and lacks facilities for visitors. The rich bird life is best experienced from Utemuseum Pulken with bird towers in the adjacent nature reserve Pulken-Yngsjön Link to another website..
The extensive wetlands by the lower reaches of the River Helge å are a haven for birds and have a rich flora. The Nature Reserves are both located within the Kristianstads Vattenrike Biosphere Reserve. The rich bird life is best observed from the Pulken Outdoor Museum, which is also a birdwatching tower. In spring, you can see large numbers of ducks, geese and waders on the open wet grasslands. The area is a resting place for thousands of cranes in late March/early April. Egeside Nature Reserve is home to many birds and wild animals, but has no easy access or facilities for visitors.
