Västra Husby kyrka

In the church you are welcomed by a blessing Jesus mosaic by Bengt Olof Kälde. The mosaic is, among other things, made of onyx from Pakistan, malachite from Africa, marble from Italy, Brazil and from Kolmården and Murano gold.

The church got its present appearance after the fire in 1977. It was on March 2 that a fire broke out, leaving only the walls. The tower was badly damaged when the church bells crashed and the pulpit, altar, pews and organ were completely destroyed. The church's loose furnishings were saved because they had already been selected for a major renovation.

Today's church is young and modern, but the location of the church has a much longer history. Already during the 12th century or the last half of the 13th century, a stone church was probably built here, but there was probably an even older wooden predecessor. According to tradition, Bishop Kol, who was bishop in Linköping in the years 1171-1196, consecrated Västra Husby church in 1186. The current church was built in 1816-1817 and consecrated in 1820 and built by the county architect Johan Holmbert according to drawings by Olof Tempelman.
