Söderköping - Vadstena by bike, St Birgitta Ways East

Want to try something new? Combine cycling along the Göta Canal with the Saint Birgitta Ways pilgrimage route. For four days you cycle through beautiful nature, passing locks, churches and historical sites in the footsteps of St. Birgitta. Along the way there are many opportunities for breaks in churches and cafes.

The journey starts in Söderköping, where you can visit St. Laurentii church and stamp your pilgrim passport. The daily stages continue via Norsholm, Linköping/Vreta kloster and Bergs slussar, and Motala. You cycle mostly along the canal's towpaths and small country roads, with the possibility of a bike boat over lakes.

The journey ends in Vadstena, one of the Nordic region's most important pilgrimage destinations since the 14th century. Here you visit the Pilgrimage Center and Vadstena Abbey Church where St. Birgitta's relics are located - and receive your diploma as proof of completed pilgrimage cycling.
