Beskrivelse
The Indalsälven and former ice rivers have transported sand and gravel with a lot of lime in it. Large, coarse spruce trees with a diameter of up to 80 centimeters show that the soil is nutrient-rich. In the soil layer you will find large mats of wreath moss. Here you can also find the plants thistle, knotweed and black magic grape.
The area is best known for the occurrence of bombardier's clover. A strange mushroom, whose fruiting body has a spherical shape with a wide hole at the top.
You can see that there are many stones and larger boulders in Kvarnån. This means that there are gravel beds and sandy bottoms in the course of the river. In addition, many dead branches and trees have fallen into the river, which means that many aquatic insects thrive.

Rutevejledning
Follow the signs to the Thai pavilion. Turn towards the Thai pavilion but do not drive into the parking lot but drive past the parking lot, further past the hotel along a smaller road in the direction of the river valley. After a steep descent, turn left and continue straight ahead for about 1 kilometer until you reach a turnaround with a shelter and information boards. The nature reserve is then to the left of the road and a path runs through the area along the Kvarnån river.
Regler
Welcome to Kvarnån Utanede. Please note that within the reserve it is not allowed to:
- pick and collect species of various kinds, with the exception of berries and edible mushrooms,
- climbing trees, staying near a bird of prey's nest, lair or pot, collecting animals or otherwise deliberately damaging or disturbing wildlife,
- damaging the ground, boulders, vegetation, dry trees or other dead wood
- make a fire, other than with firewood, at a fireplace marked on the map, Appendix 1,
- drive a motorized vehicle off-road.
Without the permission of the County Administrative Board, it is forbidden to:
- carry out or conduct competitions, camp activities and military training activities.
