Gammelskogsturen Valmen - Nyvallen

From the wind shelter at Valmen you have a fantastic view of the north-eastern slope of Sonfjället. From here you can quickly and easily enter Sonfjället National Park. Follow the path from the shelter a few hundred meters down to the river Valmen and cross the bridge. From here a path goes up to Nyvallen (7 km) and another path follows Valmen downstream to Lars-Larskojan, a few kilometers south.

If you want to do a real old-growth forest walk, follow the path up towards Nyvallen. At the trail junction after about 5 km, take the left path towards Ryvålens wind shelter. In the slightly hilly terrain below Ryvålarna you have a nice view. If you turn around at Lill-Ryvålen and walk the same way back, the hike is about 12 km.

A shorter alternative to the forest walk is to follow the river downstream. After about one and a half kilometers, at the height of Lars-Larskojan, the marked path ends and you have to walk the same way back. Take the opportunity to look at the pit system down by the river.
