Recommended period
This trail runs partly in areas that are sensitive when the ground is wet. Avoid the trail during snowmelt and also when there has been heavy rain.
Experience along the trail
After the trail there are nice shelters with the possibility to light a fire. You bring the wood yourself and take the rubbish back home.
On your feet
This trail is muddy and wet in places. Here it is good to have waterproof boots with a proper sole or that you do not take your newest running shoes.
Dog
Dogs are of course welcome but remember to keep them on a leash and to remove poop that ends up where someone else may accidentally walk in it.
Garbage
Everything that is taken up on the trip must also be taken back again. If you have the opportunity, feel free to carry more garbage home than you took out with you.
Everyman's etiquette
Use the paths where they exist to protect marshes and other sensitive land.
Overflade
The surface is varied between gravel road, natural path with a lot of roots and stones, 4-wheeler road, footbridges, stone slabs and easy forest path.
Bakker
The trail can be walked in either direction but the signs on site will guide you around clockwise.
The trail starts with a gravel road and you continue straight ahead for about 500 meters until you see a smaller path that takes you into the forest. The first part you walk on a path in dense mixed forest. The path is easy to walk and only goes slightly uphill.
When the path again takes a 90 degree turn, the slightly steeper climb begins up towards Hållvallen, the sheepfold where you can stop and light a fire (cost of firewood is swished to the association) and eat your coffee indoors if you wish.
The trail passes straight through the fäbodvallen and now turns left with the sign Hållfjället. You pass several streams here where you can fill up your water bottle.
Now the gradient increases, there are some really steep parts, before the natural path reaches the tree line and becomes flatter. Once at the top, turn left and follow the 4-wheel drive road (instead of choosing the trail for the Mountain Marathon Trail straight ahead) all the way to Hållfjällers tourist station. Check the Hållfjället tourist station website to see how they are open.
If you choose not to go all the way to the tourist station, the trail turns into a new 90-degree turn, signposted Fjällmaraton 100k, and now the last hike remains with a steep slope up to the top of Hållfjället and its 900möh.
You pass up over the summit plateau and here you are invited to a fantastic view in all directions. Continue the trail and the orange markings straight over the top to start the hike down via the trail. Here the trail can be slippery at times due to loose rocks.
Once down from the mountainside, continue hiking back down to Hållvallen, but this time follow the trail left and continue the slightly wider 4-wheel track. Here, the trail is partially surfaced but several parts can be wet and muddy, especially in wet weather.
Now the trail continues down towards the valley via the wider path and if you choose not to make the detour to Kläpphögarnas wind shelter, you will soon be down at the parking lot again via the last bit of gravel road.
Parkering
Park at the western trailhead at the far end of Ottsjö.
There is a gravel parking lot where you can easily park and start your hike just above the parking lot.
