Beskrivelse
Legend has it that there is treasure buried in the shingle at Drakaberget, which was formed about 12,000 years ago.
A merchant ship hit a severe storm (possibly in the seventeenth or eighteenth centuries) and was forced to find shelter in Tärnö harbour. The storm raged and when the crew woke in the morning, they found the ship frozen in the ice and were unable to sail on. The rumours quickly spread to the mainland.
Because Sweden was beset by war, unrest and goods shortages, the captain was worried that the ship would be attacked and plundered. He searched for a hiding place and decided to bury the cargo under the stones in Drakagraven (the dragon’s grave). Legend has it that “the ship encountered misfortune” and the treasure remained where it had been hidden.
Attempts have been made to reveal the secret. The head of the county museum had excavations carried out but all that was found was a genuine Swedish five öre coin. The riddle thus remains unsolved.
