Biosfärleden Etapp 8 Lugnås Kyrka-Karleby

Section 8 offers a varied walk through a rolling cultural landscape, lush forests and historically interesting environments. The route is slightly hilly and easy to walk, making it suitable for most people.

The walk starts at Lugnås church and follows an asphalt road through an open and vibrant agricultural landscape. You pass farms, fields and pastures before the trail turns into a gravel road towards Qvarnstensgruvan Minnesfjället.

At the parking lot, the trail turns onto a forest path that leads you through lush deciduous forest to the historic mining area. The Qvarnstens mine is located in a nature reserve and there is a nice picnic area with both barbecue and toilet.

The trail continues on gravel roads and smaller paths through the forest. After about two kilometers from the mine, you can see an observatory on the left. It is one of the most advanced observatories in amateur astronomy and is open a few times a year.

As you approach Karleby you will see signs along the road telling you about the berries and vegetation of the area.
