**Church of the Holy Trinity - Exterior

Holy Trinity Church - Exterior Right now you are standing in front of Holy Trinity Church, built in the 13th century. The church was originally a monastery church for the Franciscan order. These Grey Friars, as they were called, originated in Assisi in Italy and they established a monastery in Arboga which was built in grey stone and brick and completed in the 14th century. The Franciscan Order's strategy was to build monasteries in cities that had growth potential, which Arboga had. It is exciting to imagine these monks wandering among the villagers in the streets here, and there are stories that the Grey Friars made monks' tunnels under the city. It is all the more exciting to imagine. The church has been built on over the centuries. In the 16th century the friars were driven out of the town and the church stood empty for a time, but in the 17th century it was renovated and the great tower built. The beautiful windows were enlarged a hundred years later.
