Säby Västerskog

The Säby Västerskog nature reserve is located south of Bjärka Säby. It is a conifer-dominated, primeval forest with centuries-old pines and spruces. There are plenty of dry bark, flames and windfalls, and the ground is covered in thick mats of moss. If you're lucky, you might find the small orchid knotweed in the moss.

The reserve entrance is located north of the area. There is a parking lot, an information sign and a rest area with a picnic table, fireplace and firewood. The Östgötaleden trail passes the entrance and the reserve. In addition, there is the shorter primeval forest loop that goes in a circular loop through the reserve and back to Östgötaleden. If you walk the primeval forest loop from the parking lot and back, it will be a hike of just over one kilometer.
