Opis
Rubber factory The story of Värnamo’s rubber factory started as early as 1919, when a plant was built in the old market place. Värnamo Gummifabrik AB made everything from bicycle tyres and rubber shoes to hoses and rain clothes. Production continued until 2006. At its peak, more than 900 people worked here. The factory supplied tyres to e.g. the nearby company AB M Berlin & Co, which made Apollo bicycles, mopeds and motorcycles.
Dairy You can still hear people in Värnamo refer to the “Dairy Plot” when talking about the parking area belonging to today’s cultural centre Gummifabriken. A dairy was established here in 1915. It won prizes in both butter and cheese competitions. Among the cheeses made here were Svecia, Herrgårdsost, Prästost, Apladalsost, Hushållsost and Grevé. The dairy closed in 1996.

Fakty
This sign is part of the town history walk “Pinnapå”. The whole route is around 5 km and includes 12 signs. Pinnapå is part of “Värnamo – Tales of Our Town”, a historical exhibition in the cultural centre Gummifabriken, housed in Värnamo’s ancient rubber factory.
The signs are designed by Gro Knutsen and are inspired by spindle-back chairs (pinnstolar), a famous cultural heritage from Värnamo. (Hence the name Pinnapå, which means to walk on at a steady pace.)
