Solbergadalens domänreservat, Naturreservat

About 5 kilometers north of Hofors is Solbergadalens nature reserve is 29 hectares. The area consists of a varied nature where the hundred-year-old spruce forest stands out. Here you can walk along the path that follows the stream in the valley and continues up towards the ravine. From here you can easily start the hike on the popular Gästrikeleden trail located near Solbergadalen.

The stream with its tributaries seeping out of the mountainside means that the ground is always moist. Rare forest plants thrive in the moist and nutrient-rich soil. For example, muskwort, woodruff and dwarf horsetail grow here.

There are many fallen spruces on the slope of the ravine. Tree fungi grow on the dead spruce wood and the trunks are covered with moss.

There are different types of forest in the reserve. In the south-west, along the bottom of the valley, there is a dense birch forest planted in the 1950s. In the north, the lush spruce forest meets with old, coarse spruces and along the slopes in the southeast there are many pine trees.
