Järvsöholmarna, Naturvårdsområde

On Järvsöholmarna in Ljusnan you will find vast, flat pastures. Here you can walk along the path along the river or take a break and look out over the blue mountains of the Järvsö building. Järvsöholmarna is located 4 kilometers south of Järvsö center and consists of 110 hectares of land and 85 hectares of water. The flat Storholmen is actually part of a delta and is made up of river sediment.

Kossholmen and Torön in the south are part of Ljusnanåsen. Narrow channels run between the islands, which flood large parts of the islets at high tide.

From dry meadow to coastal meadow

The area is very varied and changes from dry meadow to coastal meadow. In places there are sparse groves of deciduous and coniferous trees, and in the wetter parts there are some willow bushes.

Species-rich meadow flora

The area has a species-rich meadow flora with a large number of species that indicate long-term mowing. Here, for example, meadowsweet, bitterroot, foxglove, goat's-beard, field berry, little bluebell and sheep's fescue grow. Species-rich low sedge communities also grow in the meadow areas.
