Länsklacken

The area is about 180 ha and consists of a mountain area with a large proportion of natural forest. With its exciting hills and wilderness feeling in classic mountain pastures, located along the trail between Borlänge, Pransbodarna and Gyllbergen, Länsklacken is a great asset for anyone who likes outdoor activities and nature experiences.

Above all, it is animals and plants that need old forest with long continuity, old trees, flames and dead wood that find suitable environments here. Among birds, this applies to reclusive species such as the three-toed woodpecker, pine marten, a strong population of capercaillie and great tits. The same applies to less well-known species of cryptogams such as the scented skin, border tick, flesh tick, spruce tick, aspen cap moss and shadow blue lichen.

The cultural influence has been strong and long-lasting, mainly from the pastoral culture, but the coal-mining era is also evident. The old shepherd's huts in the reserve and in the surrounding area, for example from Pransbodarna and Snickarbodarna, are a major asset and should be preserved. The remains of a large charcoal kiln and a collapsed charcoal hut are found near the small bog a few hundred meters southwest of Svarttjärn.
