Hagåsen, Naturreservat

Hagåsen is one of the natural forest areas in the county that is most unaffected by man. The reserve is located along the 525 meter high southern slope of Hagåsen. The nature is varied but dominated by blocky moraine slopes with pine forest. There are no trails here, so you can roam freely and experience the beautiful primeval forest. Hagåsen Nature Reserve is located 7 kilometers south of Naggen, near the northern county border and covers 269 hectares. In the northern part, there are almost untouched areas of pine.

Traces of forest fires

The oldest trees are up to 500 years old and many of them bear the marks of previous forest fires. This has made it possible to map the area's fire history back over 400 years. Since 1550, 26 fires have raged in the area, 3 of which were so large that they affected almost the entire reserve.

In order to maintain the natural values created by recurring fires, the County Administrative Board carried out a conservation burn in the western part of the reserve in summer 2006.
