Tjurpanneområdet, Naturreservat

Feel the salt spray and listen to the wind roar.

These are common experiences during a trip out on Tjurpannan. The area is very exposed to the weather, as there is no outer archipelago. This leads to an exciting spectacle between the sea and the rocks, which especially attracts many visitors in strong winds. Bathers, however, have to wait for calm weather.

Whichever path you choose, Tjurpannan is an exciting area to hike in. The cliffs show traces of the advance of the inland ice and many of the heights offer sweeping views. In the western part, there are mainly steep rocky beaches, with boulders, gravel and occasional sandy beaches. Several unusual plants grow along the beaches. One of these is the protected flower beach poppy. The beach poppy has gray-green leaves and blooms during July-August, with brilliant yellow flowers. The fact that it is protected means that you are not allowed to pick or in any way damage this beautiful flower. At Tjurpannan it can bloom in thousands.

The shelter at the Storemyr marsh is a great place for both coffee and bird watching. If you are lucky, you may spot a resting crane. A prerequisite for keeping the landscape open is the combination of grazing animals that walk in the reserve during the summer season and heather burning.
