The forest in Ödet is ancient and of high ecological value. Ödet isn’t just a poetic name; it’s also a scenic spot for those who appreciate desolate wilderness. Large boulders and marshes make parts of the area difficult to navigate. It is still worth a visit for its rich plant and animal life and the old-growth forest.
The forest has been spared from logging
Rare species found here include western kidney lichen, aspen feather moss, and the three-toed woodpecker. Most of the forest in the area has been spared from modern logging and has never been clear-cut. Consequently, a large part of the natural forest’s species composition and ecological function has been preserved here.
Many dead trees provide a habitat for other species
The area is rich in diversity in terms of tree species composition, age distribution, and size. There are also many dead trees, both lying on the ground and standing, in various sizes and stages of decomposition. Dead wood is valued by many different plants and animals. Many birds, insects, and even fungi depend on it for survival. The protection of the forest in Ödet is therefore a key part of preserving biodiversity.

The following activities are prohibited in the reserve:
- damaging growing or dead trees
- picking mosses, lichens, and wood-decay fungi, or collecting animals
- operating motor vehicles
