Here you will find a number of guide arms that have strongly contributed to characterizing today's rapids in this area. In order to channelize the rapids and to be able to guide the floated timber to the northeastern part of the river, a stone slope was built in the 1920s, reinforced and raised with a powerful timber boom. The establishment of Baggböle sawmill (Umeå) in the 1850s marked the start of increasingly large-scale logging along the river valley. 1937 was the high point, when around 700,000 cubic meters of timber were floated. The last year of floating down the Vindel River was 1976.
