Beskrivelse
Here is one of Värmland's largest rich marshes in a marsh area classified as the highest value class.
Nordmarksmyrarna is a complex of bogs, swamp forests and various types of marshes. The area is suitable for outdoor recreation in all seasons, for example with the possibility of sport fishing in the Nordmarksälven river that flows through the northern parts of the reserve.
In connection with Värmland's county-wide bog inventory at the end of the 1970s, the natural values of the Nordmarks marshes were recognized and classified then, as today, to the highest value class. The high natural values are based on the area's diversity, representativeness, unspoiled nature and its well-developed rich marsh vegetation.
The purpose of the nature reserve is to preserve the biodiversity, the valuable natural environments and the untouched character of the area. The aim is to be achieved by allowing the various natural environments to develop mainly freely. The measures planned are burning, clearing and closing of ditches. In addition, the reserve will be made accessible for outdoor recreation while being kept free from exploitation and from negative impact on hydrology.
Animals and plants
The peat bogs are among the largest known in Värmland County and are home to a rich flora of both mosses and vascular plants. Here you will find species that are unusual for Värmland, such as thorny sedge, meadow sedge, wormwood yellow moss and club moss. In addition to the natural values associated with the area's wetlands, there are also wooded bog islands and small areas of natural coniferous forest. The Nordmarksälven river also has high values, including river pearl mussels.
Culture
Nordmark is the country's second most mineral-rich area, which has contributed to former mining activity strongly characterizing the area. Most of the Nordmark marshes bear traces from the time when the mines in the area were in operation, mainly extracting iron ore. Today, the traces of the mines can be seen mainly through water-filled mine holes and slag heaps in the southern part of the reserve.
