Beskrivelse
In the reserve there are coarse spruce trunks lying around and trees that grow slowly. Together with the moist air, it is a good environment for rare lichens, mosses and fungi.
The nature reserve has a natural forest where conifers are most common. In some places there are deciduous trees such as old, coarse aspens. The area has long been left fairly untouched. This means that species that do not survive modern forestry can thrive here.
The reserve was established so that the forest can develop freely, the water balance of the soil cannot be disturbed and other protected areas together with Ängtjärnshöjden are valuable for nature in this part of Värmland.
Animals and plants
Here are hanging lichens such as yarn lichen Alectoria sarmentosa, and violet-gray thorn lichen, Bryoria nadvornikiana. On lying tree trunks, you can find forest moss, Anastrophyllum michauxii, wood moss, Anastrophyllum hellerianum, and long-lobed moss, Nowellia curviflora. Old aspens can host the large aspen tick, Phellinus populicola and the flat feather moss, Neckera complanata.

Veibeskrivelse
Location: Värmlands län, Årjängs kommun, about 6 km NW of Töcksfors. From E 18 east of Töcksfors: drive north towards Arvika and Vännacka about 3 km, turn left towards Ivarsbyn and drive 2.5 km, turn left at the sign "Veterinär". Follow the signs for the vet at the first crossroads. At the second crossroads: turn left and drive past the Myrbråten Nature Reserve for about 3.5 km. There is a parking lot where the road ends. Note that there is a road barrier about 300 m after the second fork. The road barrier is locked. You can park your car on the turning area by the barrier. From the turning area it is about 3 km to walk to the reserve.
Forskrifter
In the reserve it is forbidden to:
- collect invertebrates, such as insects
- collecting mosses, lichens, wood fungi or aquatic plants
- breaking branches, felling, damaging or removing living or dead trees and bushes
- driving vehicles such as bicycles, tractors, snowmobiles and quad bikes
- make fires,
- use the area in an organized manner for commercial purposes without the permission of the county administrative board, and for schools and institutions to regularly use the area to carry out scientific or other studies.
