Röke, Naturreservat

In Röke you are met by a natural forest-like broadleaf forest in an area with a lot of coniferous forest. The reserve has plenty of old beech and oak trees with hollows and ticks. Birds such as the skylark and wood pigeon thrive here. A pointed pebble ridge, known as a goat ridge, runs through the area. A small forest road runs through the reserve that can be used for hiking. The reserve is located in the community of Röke northwest of Hässleholm.

Röke is a beech forest reserve in an otherwise increasingly coniferous forest-dominated landscape. A pointed pebble ridge, known as a goat ridge, runs through the area. Three small areas of bog peat are today covered with deciduous swamp forest. The land has historically been extensively managed. 100 years ago, the northern part was open, possibly as a result of a forest fire. In the west and north, the area is partly bounded by a stone wall.

Large parts of the forest are natural forest-like with mainly beech. Among the beech trees are large pines, hornbeam, oak and rowan. The ground is covered in places by bilberry, house moss and big broom moss. In the hollows, deciduous swamp forest grows with alder and silver birch. There is plenty of dead wood, but also plenty of old trees, many with root holes and lichen. The spruce forest in the reserve will gradually be converted to broadleaf forest. Stone crow, green warbler, wood pigeon, nuthatch and nutcracker are some of the forest's birds.

Outdoor life

The Röke nature reserve is located 2 km from the village of the same name, and just under 2 miles northwest of Hässleholm. It is easy to get to the area by bike or on foot. Throughout the nature reserve there is a forest road that can be used for hiking, from Harastorp in the north to Solbacken in the southwest. There is also a parking lot for 2-3 cars. On the map there is a shooting range marked with an arrow directly west of the reserve.
