Handlinger

Beskrivelse

The Hagestad-Järarna nature reserve borders the two larger reserves Sandhammaren and Hagestad. The three reserves are all part of one of Sweden's largest coastal dune areas and are home to interesting plant and animal life.

Planned nature conservation burning in March-April

Sometimes the meadow must burn, so that species do not disappear! That's why the County Administrative Board is carrying out planned conservation burning in several protected areas during March-April, including here.

Older sand dunes and heather moors

Once upon a time, Hagestad-Järarna consisted mainly of open sand dunes and heather moors. In order to prevent sand from escaping, which could do great damage to nearby farmland, pine trees were planted to bind the sand. After grazing ceased in the area, overgrowth increased further.

The teeming life of sand

Many specialized and unusual animals and plants are linked to the open sandy areas. If animals or people don't move around the land, it starts to overgrow and important habitats disappear. Even today, large parts of Hagestad-Järarna are covered by a sparse pine forest, but in recent years some planted pine forest has been felled in favor of open sandy areas and oak forest.

Butterflies and birds

A variety of butterfly species thrive in the reserve's open areas. Among the red-listed species are, for example, the violet-edged goldwing, the meadow metalwing and the red-brown grassfly. In the past, the very rare species of tidy leafcutter and moth have also been recorded in the reserve.

Hagestad-Järarna and the adjacent reserves are also home to a rich bird life. The reserve is home to shrikes, lesser spotted woodpeckers and tits, among others. Rarities such as nightjar and skylark nest in the area.

Outdoor life

There are no marked paths here, but it is possible to wander freely through the sparse pine forest and perhaps look out for the fine bird and butterfly life. In the adjoining reserves Hagestad Link to another website. and Sandhammaren Link to another website. there are rest areas, as well as parking and toilets. Remember to take your rubbish home. The nearest bus stop is Sandhammaren, which is in the northern part of the reserve.

Hagestad-Järarna is one of several nature reserves located along the coast in this area. The Skåneleden trail (SL4 Österlen, stages 2 and 3) runs through the reserves and is the obvious choice for a longer hike. Remember to show consideration for the grazing animals.

In English

Welcome to Hagestad-Järarna Nature Reserve

The pine woodland, which covers the majority of the reserve, was planted in the 1900s. The woodland is home to the most southerly population of elk in Sweden and has a rich bird life.

Many species, which otherwise are becoming all the more rare, thrive on the sunny and sandy areas with bare patches of sand. The sand, which is easy to dig into, is perfect for the antlion species Euroleon nostras to store their prey and for different bees and wasps to dig their nests. If there are lots of insects, then there are usually also lots of birds - the species woodlark (Lullula arborea), honey buzzard (Pernis apivorus) and nightjar (Caprimulgus

europaeus) have their feeding grounds here.

In order to provide a helping hand for many of the threatened species associated with sandy habitats, the pine woodland will be opened up by creating glades and patches of bare sand. A heathland with sunny, sandy hollows will be also restored. This will be a real boost for the inhabitants of the sandy areas!
