Beskrivelse

Holm's old-growth forest includes a small mountain and barren rocky areas. In the area you can walk on the trails or roam freely in the forest. The mountain and rocky areas offer great nature experiences. Holms gammelskog is located 10 kilometers southeast of Hudiksvall and covers 15 hectares. The area's harsh conditions have shaped the 200-300 year old pines. They are low-growing and gnarled with flat crowns.

The dead trees in the area form gaps in the forest. The gaps form a light ground layer with abundant bramble vegetation of bilberry, heather and heather.

Animals in Holm's old-growth forest

A number of plants and animals thrive in the light and untouched coniferous forest with dead wood. These include the red-listed species three-toed woodpecker, pine tick and twig lichen.

The nature reserve is located about 10 kilometers southeast of Hudiksvall.

Forskrifter

Special rules apply in the nature reserve. It is not allowed:

  • drive motorized vehicles,
  • make fires and take firewood
  • break branches, cut down or otherwise damage living or dead standing or fallen trees and bushes,
  • damaging, picking or collecting plants, fungi and algae
  • climbing trees, staying near a bird of prey's nest, lair or burrow, collecting animals or otherwise deliberately harming or disturbing wildlife
  • bringing an off-leash dog or other unleashed pet
  • put up a picture, poster, billboard, sign or make an inscription
  • damaging any fixed object or surface formation, such as moving or removing stones or similar
  • riding a horse or bicycle
