Beskrivelse

Sörmyren offers one of the county's finest mire areas. The moss richness is great, as are the bird species that like to visit the area. Walk along the path in the north, but be careful if you go out on the bog, so you do not step into any water-filled göl.

Sörmyren is a raised bog, which means that it rises above the surrounding land. A bog can only absorb water from rain and what grows on top of the bog are therefore species that do not require much nutrition. At Sörmyren, the highest point of the bog is not in the center, but at the edge. This is why it is called eccentric. In the center of the bog are water-filled pools, where long-legged wading birds like to stroll. With their slender beaks they sift the water and the dune in search of insects. In the driest parts of the bog there are crooked little pine trees, and on the ground there are hemlocks, crowberries, heather and cranberries.

In the southern part of the bog, the marshes take over. Here there are both wire sedge and bottle sedge marshes. And even further south there are rice bogs, swamp forest and woodland bogs.

From Lake Hyn, Hynsån meanders through forest and mire, into the reserve and finally flows into Lake Svarten. Many different fish live below the surface, including stonefish, minnow, perch and trout. There are also traces of beavers at Hynsån.

The waters of Hynsån have carried logs that were floated away from the forest where they were felled. Almost all watercourses in Sweden have been used for log driving at some point. Before rafting, large rocks were cleared from the rivers and sometimes they were dug deeper so that the logs would arrive faster. Today, watercourses are being restored because floating has had a negative impact on many aquatic species.

To the north of the trail, east of the Edla stream, is a Trinity spring. In the past, it was believed that the spring could cure diseases if you drank from it. The water would then bring the diseases north, which was the home of the evil ones. The spring is home to the marsh moss and the purple moss. The almost burgundy color of the purple moss gives the otherwise greenish-yellow moss cover a special appearance.

A path passes through the northern part of the reserve where you can hike and ride snowmobiles. A simple bridge has been built over the Hynsån river. Fishing in the reserve is administered by Lingheds fiskevårdsområdesförening. If you want to fish, you should contact them to buy a fishing license.
