Beskrivelse

Welcome to Gummagölsmåla, a nature reserve located along a 40 meter deep crevice valley where Bräkneån flows. There grows deciduous forest with grove flora. In spring, bluebells bloom. Up on the plateau there are pastures and old fields that are grazed. You can hike on trails within the reserve. The hiking trail "Vildmarksleden" passes by.

Mill remains and fossil farmland

The nature reserve is located on the west side of the river and includes parts of the river, the steep wooded slope with landslides and parts of the plateau with old fields, meadows and pastures. Down by the river, there are ancient remains of milling activities and a rafting facility. Up on the plateau there is a large area of fossil farmland, with clearance cairns and old lime trees, ash trees and elms that were previously felled.

Coniferous deciduous forest on the slope

A deciduous forest classified as a key biotope grows on the slope. The tree layer consists of beech, oak, ash, lime, hornbeam, elm, birch and aspen. Lichen grows on several trees. In places there is a large element of spruce. Swamp deciduous forest grows on small islands in the river, mainly with alder. Up on the plateau there is today oak-dominated deciduous forest and wooded pasture.

Rich plant life

Plant life is rich along the river. There is a species-rich grove flora with, among other things, cornflower, goldenrod, witch hazel, dwarf witch hazel, water lily, yellow lily, starflower, fern and nettle root. Gummagölsmåla is one of the county's most species-rich areas when it comes to fungi, including a large number of red-listed species. The old hay meadows are home to, among other things, meadowsweet, willow herb, marsh violet and spearmint. Water clover and yellow sword lily grow along the banks. Yellow water lily grows in the calm waters of the river.

Pearl mussel and otter

The river varies with stretches of rapids, calmer sections and swell formations, where the river splits into several branches. In this part of the river, the fish species are minnow, perch, pike, brook lamprey and a dwindling population of trout. There are also a few older river pearl mussels. Otters occasionally move along the river. The reserve has a rich bird life with, for example, the species of green gosling, common crow and common tern.
