Beskrivelse

The Håkansbodaberget nature reserve is a mountainous old-growth forest area with old mixed coniferous forest and large old aspens. The pearl owl, capercaillie, jelly larvae, ventriloquist's dummy and knot thrive in the area. From the mountain you have a nice view of Håkansbodasjön.

Among magic grapes and the coniferous forest's own orchid

Between the heights are depressions with marshes and the Lopotten tarn. Among the spruces and pines are aspens and birches. There are nest holes in the aspens, and many lichens and fungi grow on the trunks. The mixed coniferous forest is 200 years old. Spruce is more common in low-lying, damp areas, where there are many thorn lichens. In places where there is lime in the soil, wood anemone, witch hazel and night violet thrive. The small orchid knotweed is also found here, but does not need lime in the soil, but thrives even in ordinary coniferous forests.

Many rare species

There are 15 more or less threatened species in the area. Most are disadvantaged by modern forestry. The mushrooms cicada and candelabra only grow on dead aspen trunks. The latter looks like a tiny white candelabra or miniature spruce bush. Among the threatened and rare lichens is the small, bushy species of variegated lichen, which is often found on rock walls in sheltered, damp locations. Marsh marigold is a flowering plant with a creeping habit, found on the ground or on rock piles at the foot of hillsides and slopes.

Woodpeckers thrive here

During a walk, there is a good chance of encountering a capercaillie or a wolverine - the little gnome of the forest. If you're lucky, you may also bump into the forest's smallest owl, the barn owl, which stares at you from a spruce top. On spring mornings, it whistles its territorial call at dawn and dusk. In the two-hundred-year-old spruces, the three-toed woodpecker searches for larvae and insects. There is a lot of dead wood of different ages and species in the area. The hilly terrain has made it difficult to harvest the forest. Therefore, many insects and wood fungi have found a favorable environment. It is permitted to pick edible mushrooms in the reserve, so bring your mushroom basket! To the east, Håkansbodaberget borders the Meshattbäcken nature reserve, which also includes the whole of Håkansbodasjön.
