Sörknatten, Naturreservat

The Sörknattel Trail follows an ancient mountain range up and down barren heights, known as "knattar".

These consist of a really hard rock that has withstood the elements for millions of years, while the surrounding rocks have weathered away. The pines that manage to grow in crevices in these places are also tough. Like true bonsai trees, they are gnarled and twisted.

Most people don't walk the whole trail, but make their way to the top of Sörknatten, which offers a breathtaking 360-degree view of the forest and lake. On a clear day, you can see for miles across Vänern and Kinnekulle. There are several viewpoints along the challenging route and it is a really pulse-raising trip that awaits you!

But the reserve not only contains incomparable views, but also really old forest. The oldest trees are over 300 years old and there are many unusual species.

The Sörknattel Trail is marked in orange and is about 6.5 km long. Good to keep in mind, is that it can be slippery when it rains on the "knats" along the trail. From the main entrance in the south, it is about 1.5 km to the top of Sörknatten. From the northern entrance it is about 5 km. Sörknatten's northern reserve parking lot is shared with the nearby Baståsen nature reserve.
