Beskrivelse
Enjoy the birdlife in the natural forest on the riverbank.
Edeby nature reserve consists of a river isthmus with several old river banks and intermediate wetlands that were formed after the river gradually moved west. Parts of the isthmus are flooded annually during the high flows of the Klarälven, which is why the soil is nutrient-rich and covered with deciduous trees.
The reserve was established to preserve an area of flood-affected deciduous forest along the Klarälven. The area is part of the EU's ecological network of protected areas, Natura 2000.
In 2020, the reserve was expanded with a value core, where most of the area is dominated by deciduous trees. Thanks to the good presence of birch and aspen, the area contributes to higher diversity within the reserve as a whole.
Animals and plants
The natural values in the area are linked to the deciduous forest, rich in coarse dying and dead wood, where many cryptogams, such as mosses, fungi and lichens occur. In addition, insects thrive and provide food for the rich bird life. Characteristic bird species are the duck and the lesser spotted woodpecker.

Location: By the river Klarälven, 1 kilometer east of Övre Ullerud church in Forshaga municipality. Take highway 62. 4 kilometers south of Olsätter - take the road east towards Övre Ulleruds church. Drive past the church and continue via the bridge over Klarälven. Turn left on the other side of the river. Turn left again at the crossing after 700 meters. Drive just over 600 meters. Turn right just after the stream crossing. The reserve parking is after about 50 meters. To reach the reserve from the parking lot you have to go back and cross the road. Follow a small gravel road about 100 meters to the west over the paved bike path, Klarälvsbanan, and further into the reserve area.
Forskrifter
In the reserve it is forbidden to:
- collect invertebrates, such as beetles and land snails
- collecting mosses, lichens and wood fungi
- damaging or removing trees and bushes, including dead wood such as lying and standing dry trees and dry branches.
- Without the permission of the county administrative board, it is forbidden to make organized commercial use of the area, and for schools and institutions to regularly use the area to carry out scientific or other investigations.
