Handlinger

Beskrivelse

Åstarpe bog consists of a varied bog landscape with damp heaths, bogs, swamp forests and mainland islets. The bog is one of the country's most valuable wetland areas. Here you can walk a 2.5 kilometer long marked hiking trail through the undisturbed wilderness.

High up on Hallandsåsen, the vast wetland Åstarpe mosse spreads out. A 2.5 kilometer long marked hiking trail runs across the reserve's mainland islands. Here you can walk in the natural forest and at the same time learn more about the area through the small educational signs that are set up along the way.

Unspoiled wilderness

The varied mire landscape with damp heaths, bogs, swamp forests and mainland islets creates conditions for a diversity of plants and animals. The wet heaths are characterized by marsh lily and heather between tall sedges and bluebells. On the wooded bogs, heather, tufa, cloudberry and lingonberry grow under sparse pine trees. The open bogs are dominated by white moss and various types of sedges. The swamp forests are mainly dominated by silver birch, while the mainland islets are covered with blueberry-rich coniferous forest.

Playground for black grouse

The open bogs are home to grouse breeding grounds. The playing season lasts between April and May. Another of our woodland birds lives in the forest - the capercaillie. Bee-eaters, nightjars and skylarks are other rarities that visitors can meet in the reserve.

Former pastures

In the 18th and 19th centuries, open, damp moors were common in Halland. Kärra fälad, east of the parking lot, as well as several other wet heaths in the reserve were grazed until the 1950s. Nowadays Kärra fälad is overgrown with naturally occurring pine and birch forest. The wide crowns and curved growth of the trees testify to the former, open grazing landscape.

Traces from the past

The ownership boundaries in the area were changed during the 1872 land consolidation. The new boundaries were marked with stone walls and earth banks. Traces of these are still visible in the terrain today.
