🔥 Planned conservation burning in Kynnefjäll spring/summer 2026

In Kynnefjäll you can take a long walk in a wilderness area where capercaillie dance and fence, and the anthills are impressively large.

The Bohus Trail runs right through the reserve and there are several other marked trails to choose from. When you walk along the Bohus Trail, remember that the bird life at Stora Holmevatten is sensitive, so be careful if you are resting or having a snack, for example, so that you do not stay near nests or otherwise disturb the birds. At some of the lakes there are windbreaks, of which the one closest to the parking lot in Kasebo (about 200m away) is accessible. This shelter is not a shelter for overnight stays, but is a rest shelter. On Vaktarekullen there is an overnight cabin with 12 beds and access to dry toilets. It is one of West Sweden's few open cabins, where it is completely free to sleep overnight.

If the lakes are frozen and free of snow, the area is popular with skaters who want to go on a tour. The gravel road and part of the parking lot in Kasebo are usually plowed. Keep in mind that the area is high, colder and there may be more snow on Kynnefjäll than in the surrounding area, and it can be difficult to see paths and trails if there is snow.
