The beautiful small community Vilhelmina is located by Lake Volgsjön in southern Lapland. Here culture, nature and exciting outdoor activities meet. With a large selection of culture, arts and crafts along with a wilderness around the corner, it is a place worth staying in a little longer.
Church towns are mainly a northern phenomenon. Church towns used to be a necessity here because the parishes could be huge on the surface. The church town in Vilhelmina is from the end of the 18th century. In the picturesque neighborhoods with their small alleys, there is also a local history museum, craft house ans a art gallery.
You stay in the charming old cottages, most of them with fireplaces and the so-called Vilhelmina wallpaper on the walls. Each cottage has its own special character, and is carefully renovated in older style.
Vilhelmina also offers a strong food and craft culture and fantastic nature experiences all around. Walk along Volgsjön and stop at Gubbseleforsen. Or take a walk and experience the Blaikfjället nature reserve. Here you will find easy-to-walk paths with nice stairs and beams. The fishing is world class with flowing water and lakes.
Please note that the reception is located inside the Church Town area. If you look for the flagpole with the STF flag in the middle of the Church Town, you will see a yellow door with a sign above it that says “Guest Reception.” For check-in on weekends and after 5 pm, make sure to contact with the reception well in advance on telephone +4694039887.

By train:
You can take the train all the way to Vilhelmina. There are also night trains so you can arrive rested. In summer you can take the classic Inlandsbanan to Vilhelmina. An experience in itself!
With car:
From the north
E45, Sagavägen, Vildmarksvägen. At the northern entrance after the church, turn left. The church town comes after about 150 meters. The reception at the Tourist Office, Tingsgatan 1 (Tingshuset).
From the south
E45 into Society. Reception: turn first right after ICA. It is signposted Tourist Information. Then turn first left behind a red house. The reception is in the large beautiful building, Tingshuset.
By bus:
Ask the driver if its possible to be dropped off outside Posten / Bil och Fritid (intersection E45 / Postgatan). From the bus station follow the road towards the center. From there, turn left upwards about 400m on the right is the tourist office and reception in the beautiful Tingshuset.
By plane:
Vilhelmina has its own airport, South Lapland Airport with flights from Stockholm.
