Gubbträskbäcken

Gubbträskbäcken is a large nature reserve in the western part of Lycksele municipality between Lycksele and Åsele.

The reserve is located about 3 km northwest of the village of Granträsk. The area consists mainly of a northeastern slope down to Gubbträskbäcken, which flows into Gubbträsket.

In the reserve grows a hanging lichen-rich pine-dominated natural forest with a consistently high age (160-200 years) and good age distribution. There are also large areas of swamp forest with mostly small trees and with high age, often over 200 years.

On the north-eastern side of the stream, there is an untouched grand-dominated primeval forest with very old trees and general to abundant dead wood. Near the stream, the forest is swampy and particularly coarse, with a lot of herbs growing on the ground. In the western part, there is a mosaic of marshland and wooded bog islands.
