Tegsnäset, Naturreservat

A trip to Tegsnäset Nature Reserve provides a great nature experience in hilly terrain with both lakes and older natural forest. In addition, the area is relatively unaffected by humans, which gives a certain wilderness feeling.
Tegsnäset nature reserve is located southeast of the village of Tegen in the eastern part of Årjäng municipality. The hilly terrain in the reserve with rocky shelves and precipices gives a variation in the vegetation, which otherwise consists mainly of spruce forest. One third of the reserve consists of water such as Tegstjärnet, Älgsjön, Abborrtjärnet and some smaller streams.

The purpose of the nature reserve is to preserve, restore and develop both biodiversity and valuable natural environments. There are already good conditions for high biodiversity in the reserve. This is partly due to the old forest, which is around 150 years old, and partly due to the variety of both natural and aquatic environments in the area. The purpose of the nature reserve is also to provide opportunities for outdoor recreation and nature experiences.

Animals and plants

Parts of the area, which largely consists of older forest, have high natural values as they are both fire-affected and have a high proportion of dead wood, which provides good conditions for many lichens, mosses, insects and birds to thrive here. For example, there are clear traces of three-toed woodpeckers and woodpeckers that have their pantries in the dead spruce stands created by, among other things, beaver dams. Another proof of the high natural values in the area is the discovery of the border tick, a wood fungus that is very rare in the county.
