Nordbyberget, Naturreservat

Hyperite rock rich in vascular plants, land snails and birds.

The presence of hyperite in the bedrock provides conditions for a high soil pH and a valuable flora.

The reserve was established to preserve part of a hyperite mountain with natural vegetation types and endangered plants and animals. The area is part of the EU's Natura 2000 network of valuable nature.

Animals and plants

In the upper parts of the reserve, pine trees grow with an age of over 200 years. Further down in the mixed spruce forest, the presence of gray alder, aspen, maple and willow increases. The hyperite bedrock is reflected in the varied flora, which is worthy of protection, with species such as black birch, hellebore, goat's beard, spring barley, witch hazel, wood anemone, sweet woodruff and hazel.

The bird life includes wolverines, great spotted woodpeckers, woodpeckers, tits, wrens, nuthatches and warblers. On the slopes of Nordbyberget there is also a rich shellfish fauna.
