Fifång
- Naturreservat
- Fylke: Stockholms län
Handlinger
Beskrivelse
The nature reserve includes the islands of Fifång, Oxnö and Korpen, together with the surrounding waters and smaller islets. The landscape is dominated by rocky pine forests, but also features broadleaf woodland, spruce forest and alder wetlands. The islands are characterized by dramatic elevation changes, steep cliffs and rugged terrain.
In the centre of Fifång lies the only settlement in the nature reserve, surrounded by historic farmland. Here you can explore ancient oak trees with rare lichens, pollarded ash trees, shallow sea bays, and grazed coastal meadows and pastures. Thanks to the island’s lime-rich soils, Fifång is home to an exceptionally rich variety of wildflowers and other vascular plants.
On the island’s eastern side, you can also see a natural rock formation known as a giant’s kettle—a large, smooth pothole carved into the bedrock by glacial meltwater.
Public jetties, toilets and waste disposal facilities on Fifång are available for visitors. These facilities are maintained by the Södertälje Boating Association in cooperation with the Stockholm County Administrative Board and the Municipality of Södertälje.
