Beskrivelse
The
Lehtiroa Nature Reserve offers a fascinating variety of landscapes, featuring a
forested mountain, a deciduous burn, a babbling brook, and several small
wetlands.
Despite the lack of trails, it's relatively easy to navigate through
the old forest, and visitors are rewarded with stunning views of the
surroundings from the summit of the mountain, which rises to 437 meters above
sea level. The hike takes you through blueberry-spruce forests and past gnarled
deciduous trees, where you may also spot rare orchids like the spider orchid
and coralroot.
To the north of the mountain lies the wetland Kaljunjänkkä, with
small swamp forests and dense birch and aspen groves that have grown after a
fire occurred 100-150 years ago. The deciduous burn provides a beautiful
contrast to the surrounding forest but will eventually be replaced by
shade-tolerant spruces as it reaches its end.

Veibeskrivelse
The nature
reserve is located about 12 km northeast of Ullatti. It can be accessed from
the east via Road 394. A forest road heads northwest just southwest of
Kompelusvaara. Turn west after about 5 kilometers, and after another 2 km, the
road will cross the reserve's boundary.
Forskrifter
The following activities are permitted:
- Camping
- Hiking
- Picking berries and edible mushrooms
- Making a fire (remember to bring your own firewood!)
- Driving snowmobiles on well-covered snow
- Fishing and hunting in accordance with applicable laws
It is not permitted to harm plant and animal life. Remember the right of
public access and take care of nature!
