Beskrivelse

Don’t miss a visit to Tryssjöberget! Here you’ll find Gagnef’s highest point, pine trees over 300 years old, and historic mountain pasture trails.

Gagnef’s highest point!

Tryssjöberget is situated at a high elevation, with a couple of narrow rift valleys cutting through the area. The highest point in the entire municipality of Gagnef is Tryss Klack at 493 m, and there are some outcrops in the bedrock.

Biology featuring Gagnef’s oldest trees?

The biological value is linked to the natural coniferous forest. Mountain pasture farming was practiced here for a long time and the forest was charred, but there are still pine trees older than 300 years and spruce trees older than 200 years. Mountains, marshes, and waterways provide the diversity and ideal conditions for capercaillies to thrive.

Cultural History with a Unique Trail System

The Tryssjöberget Nature Reserve is located in an area with strong mountain pasture traditions. Trails and paths based on the old mountain pasture routes pass through the reserve, such as the trail between Tryssjöbodarna and Grånsbodarna. The trails are part of a unique and extensive trail system based precisely on these old mountain pasture roads. There are also several traces from the charcoal-burning era in the form of old rest stops and the remains of collapsed charcoal burners’ huts.

Visitor Information

To visit the reserve, take the gravel road that runs between the villages of Backbodarna and Södra Tansbodarna. Approximately halfway across Lake Tansen, a road branches off to the east toward Tryssjöbodarna. On the lakeshore at the northern end of Lake Tryssjön, there is a storage shed; you can park along the road next to it.

There is currently no reserve sign.

Hiking trails pass through the area as part of a large trail system that connects old mountain pasture trails in Gagnef Municipality. The trail system is managed by Friluftsfrämjandet Gagnef.

From the storage shed on the shore of Lake Tryss, a hiking trail leads up to Tryss Klack. The hike is about 1.2 km one way. The trail is somewhat poorly marked, so it can be a bit difficult to find the trailhead behind the mountain pasture cabins you pass, but look around a bit and you’ll find it.

From the log cabin, a hiking trail heads north along the road, and after a while, it veers off toward the forest and into the nature reserve. A short way into the reserve, the trail splits. If you take the right fork, the trail leads out of the reserve and on toward Gränsbodarna. If you keep left, you’ll reach Ersholsklack, where there’s a log cabin with a fireplace. According to the reserve regulations, you’re not allowed to damage trees, whether standing or fallen, so bring your own firewood if you want to build a fire. The trail then continues toward Finntorpet.

From the road at Stormyran up to the shelter, it is about 1.5 km one way.
