Lur , Naturreservat

Lur is a hilly beech forest just north of Lursjön. Boulders and tree trunks are covered with mosses and lichens. In the wetter parts, the goldenrod shines in yellow-green in summer. In the area closest to Lursjön there is also an oak grove and a hay meadow. A hiking trail leads down to Lursjön. At the edge of the lake there is both a fireplace and a windbreak.

Beech forest with high natural values

Lur is a forest reserve in hilly terrain. North of the highway there is beech forest that is up to 100 years old. In the far northwest, the ground is wetter and more boulder-rich. Here the forest is denser and more varied. Both oak and hornbeam grow among the beech trees. And there is more dead wood, which is important for biodiversity.

South of the road is a deciduous forest with particularly high natural values. Here the trees are over 120 years old, a high age for forests today. There is a large amount of dead wood in the area. A small part consists of oak woodland, also with high natural values.

Among noble crown lichen, coral sponge and goldenrod

In damp parts of the reserve, boulders and tree trunks are covered in mosses and lichens. Here you can find moss traps with coarse feather moss, trap moss and western hook moss. Among the more exclusive lichens in the area are noble crown lichen, small grove lichen and the wood lichen club. The latter is only known from about 25 locations in the country. Unusual mushrooms that you can find here are coral tag mushroom, gloom mushroom and oxeye mushroom. In the wetter parts of the reserve, the sweet flower goldenrod grows. In the hay meadow closest to the lake, meadow saxifrage blooms in large quantities in summer.

Outdoor life

Parking is available in the west, just south of the highway. Another entrance is in the east. Also just south of the highway. There is a hiking trail that takes you around the hilly deciduous forest and further down to Lursjön. There is no swimming area here, but there is a shelter and a fireplace. Remember to bring your own firewood and that you need to take your rubbish home. In the northern part of the reserve you can walk along a small forest road that runs through the area.

Welcome to Lur Nature Reserve

Follow the forest road into the nature reserve and walk out beneath deciduous trees. Among hills and boulders you find a heath beech forest dating back to the 17th century. The largest part of the reserve consists of nutrient-poor beech forest. There are no paths, but it is easy to walk in the sparse forest. Interspersed between the tree-clad hills are long, narrow stretches of deciduous swamp forest and open, moist land.

In boulder-rich areas the forest is dense and more humid. Rocks and trunks are covered in soft, green moss. The hilly, bouldery terrain has made forestry difficult, which explains the abundance of old trees and dead wood. Rare lichens on the bark of beech trees, such as Lecanora glabrata, Pyrenula nitida and Bacidia rosella show that the forest here is very old.

It is (for example) forbidden to:

• bring dogs or other pets which are not physically held on a lead,
• light a fire other than in places designated by the site manager or with a camping stove,
• cycle other than on road,
• remove dead wood, break off branches, fell, or in any other way damage living or dead (standing or fallen) trees or shrubs,
• place or put up boards, placards, signs, posters or similar,
• drive motorized vehicles outside road or parking area,
• park other than in designated places marked on the map.
